January sales volume, while significantly higher than last year's recessionary numbers was in fact typical for the time of year. Prices in January declined by 1 percent from December's numbers but remain about 3 percent higher than the average price for 2009. The number of new listings coming onto the market in January was 3 percent lower than a year ago keeping the overall number of properties for sale 41 percent lower than a year ago.
